Week of April 3: We discussed the recent publication from the Peter Jonas Group on the cellular mechanisms of ripple generation (Neuron 93, 308-314, 2017). Very nice phase-coupling between phasic synaptic inhibition through parvalbumin-positive cells and the ripple cycles. So, the timing of ripple rhythms arises from repetitive fast spikes in local interneurons!
Week of April 10: We hold our trimestrial Journal Club together with the Franken group at the CIG. Papers selected revolve around the origin of sleep slow waves, the roles of cortex and thalamus in their generation, their homeostatic regulation and their functions.
