Aisylu Gaifullina
Post-doctoral fellow
Aisylu did her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Ulm University, Germany. During her Ph.D., she investigated voltage-gated
Ca2+ channels andtheir possible interplay with voltage-activated and Ca2+-sensitive A-type Kv4 channels in substantia
nigra dopaminergic neurons from wild-type mice and also from mice overexpressing a mutant form of α-synuclein (A53T, SNCA),
causing a familiar form of Parkinson’s Disease (PARK1).Using the patch-clamp technique, she discovered a novel physiological
function of T-type Ca2+ channels in normal aging and Parkinson’s Disease-paradigm.She is starting her Postdoctoral research
in Professor Jean-Yves Chatton’s group where she will focus on the neuron-astrocyte coupling to study their role in aging and Alzheimer’s Disease
