The Fondation Leenards awards each year a 3-year MD-PhD Fellowship to a young, talented physician for a PhD thesis in basic medical sciences, to ensure and support the next generation of "clinical scientist".

Maria is awarded with a Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship co-funded by the Leading House ETH Zürich

The Fellowship allows Maria to study local mRNA translation in axons and synapses in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Marco Terenzio at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in Japan.
