Francesco Alabiso
Visiting Ph.D. Student

Francesco obtained his BSc in Biotechnology in 2017 from the University of Bologna, where he studied the impact of CoQ10 depletion on cellular and mitochondrial activity. He continued at the same university, earning his MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in 2020, focusing on the potential role of PPAR transcription factors as therapeutic targets for medulloblastoma. From 2020 to 2021, he worked at KU Leuven on the role of inter-organelle crosstalk in mediating proteotoxicity in humanized yeast models for the study of neurodegenerative diseases. Since 2022, he has been pursuing his PhD at the University of Bologna, investigating the role of small non-coding RNAs in regulating molecular mechanisms related to proteostasis and metabolism in degenerative diseases such as heart failure and metabolic osteoarthritis. In September 2024, he joined Romano Regazzi's group as a Visiting Ph.D. Student to enhance his bioinformatics and technical expertise in the functional study of this class of RNAs, analyzing their role in type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
