Alessandro Contestabile
Post-doctoral fellow

Alessandro Contestabile obtained his PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. During his doctoral studies, he investigated the neural circuits underlying reward processing and social behavior using behavioral analyses, in vivo calcium imaging, and fiber photometry recordings. He subsequently joined the Meletis Lab at the Karolinska Institute as a postdoctoral researcher, where he studied selectively vulnerable dopaminergic neuron populations in Parkinson’s disease. His work combined transcriptomic approaches, advanced behavioral phenotyping, and machine learning–based analyses to identify the cellular and circuit mechanisms underlying neuronal vulnerability and disease progression. In 2026, Alessandro joined the Mameli Lab at the University of Lausanne, where he investigates how neural circuit activity and behavioral states contribute to the onset and progression of neurodegenerative disorders.
