João Ferreira Morais
PhD student

João was born in Valpaços, Portugal, and earned his bachelor's degree in Genetics and Biotechnology from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. For his undergraduate thesis, he worked under the supervision of António Avelino studying the effects of a novel drug on muscle regeneration in rats.
He then obtained a master's degree in Neurobiology from the University of Porto. During his master thesis, João conducted research at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown in Lisbon, under the guidance of Fanny Cazettes, where he investigated the role of serotonin in decision-making under uncertainty in mice. After completing his Masters, he continued working on the same project as a research assistant at Mainen lab. João is interested in internal states and behavior and is currently pursuing a PhD in Anita Lüthi's lab, focusing on sleep-mediated memory consolidation in a goal-directed sensorimotor task.
