Asia Macaione
PhD student
Asia obtained her BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Ferrara and her MSc in Neuroscience from the University of Trieste. She carried out her master’s thesis at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology in Warsaw, investigating how a neural pathway connecting the Ventral Tegmental Area (VTA) to the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) influences motivation for social interactions in mice. After completing her master’s degree, she worked as a research fellow at the National Research Council in Milan, studying the role of parvalbumin-positive interneurons in PCDH19-related Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy-9 (DEE9). She is currently a PhD student in the laboratory of Paola Bezzi, where she studies regression in neurodevelopmental disorders using a mouse model of Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (PMS).
