Matilde Oropallo
PhD student

Matilde Oropallo completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, specializing in Biomedical Instrumentation. During her MSc thesis, conducted in Lugano in collaboration with SUPSI (Meditech) and the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale, she investigated slow oscillation dynamics during NREM sleep in Parkinson’s disease using a continuous spectral framework. Her work focused on power analysis, the coupling between slow rhythms and faster oscillatory activity, and neurophysiological profiling to better characterize sleep-related brain activity and its alterations in this population. She is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Laurent Sheybani, in the laboratory of Prof. Anita Lüthi, where she investigates the role of sleep and slow oscillations in epileptic activity. Her research aims to determine whether a relative limitation in slow-wave generation is associated with an increased risk of epileptic events.
